Adding tags
Joplin offers an additional way to view and organize your notes by using keyword tags. They can be added to individual notes using the button Click to add tags… at the bottom of the editing window. Enter your first keyword(s) and click the button Create “…”. Repeat the procedure for other tags and click the button OK.
Tags appear in a sidebar on the left, with a count indicating the number of notes they are associated with. When adding tags to other notes, typing the first few letters of an existing tag will make it appear as an option in the AutoComplete list. When you click a label in the sidebar, the notes list pane displays all notes that contain that label.
You’re already familiar with Joplin’s search tool, which allows you to search by keyword in the current list of notes (both titles and content, but not tags). To search all notes, select All notes under Notepads.

Note file
The structure of a note file is simple: it is a text .md file. Contains title, body, metadata. Delimiter is empty string:
When editing, it is important not to forget to update the values of the updated_time and user_updated_time parameters. This way, other clients will pick up the file changes during synchronization.
Lock file
In addition to editing a note, it is important not to forget that there are other clients synchronizing at the same time. The lock file is responsible for data consistency. It is a file with the name of the formatlocks/<lock_type>_<app_type>_<app_id>.jsonThe contents of the file, judging by the documentation, do not matter: the body contains the same data as the name. Probably the body of the file is legacy. Just in case, we will write the same json object that is written to lock files in other applications:

Expanding Joplin functionality
If Joplin is missing a feature, you may be able to add it using a plugin. Go to menu Service > Settings > Plugins and click on the “gear” icon next to the item Manage plugins – click View all pluginsto go to Joplin’s GitHub page for a full list of over 150 plugins. You’ll find plugins that extend Joplin’s Markdown capabilities, themes that change appearance, customize functionality, and even new features. Shown in the box (above) are our favorites.
Click on the house icon next to an entry to get more information about the plugin (as well as instructions on how to use it) on its own page – usually also on GitHub – and download the plugin itself. After downloading, return to the section Manage plugins and select Install from file. After this, the plugin will appear in the section Pluginswhere you can turn it on or off, check for (and install) updates, and delete the plugin if you no longer need it.
