Comparison of configurations and prices

Most SUVs share common features, but the designated versions have different trim levels with their own set of available features. First of all, they differ in quantity. There are three versions available for Hyundai, and four for its main rival. Secondly, each has an individual “package” of available options. Similarities are observed in technical equipment and in terms of price. If we make a competitive comparison, the Telluride still turns out to be slightly cheaper.

The basic Palisade package will cost 1,970,000 rubles. The Limited version is considered the oldest and leaves the dealer for 2,790,000 rubles. The minimum SE build is available with front-wheel drive and a “lightweight” 2.2-liter engine. The functionality of this configuration is sufficient for comfortable movement, but some functions are still missing. In the extreme, the buyer can count on systems such as:

  • 7 airbags;
  • adaptive climate control;
  • heating package;
  • climate control for several zones;
  • multimedia system;
  • keyless entry and engine start;
  • parking sensors/cameras, etc.

The enemy will cost a little less, however, and it cannot be called budget. The manufacturer asks for 1,980,000 – 2,600,000 rubles, depending on the functionality. The available LX version has already received 10 airbags, which indicates increased attention to the safety of the lives of all passengers. In addition, the driver can expect increased comfort and safety when added to the cost. Attention was also paid to the multimedia system, which promises to reach a premium level.

Fuel consumption

Calling the designated “Koreans” economical will not work. They are not designed for the city, so when driving in traffic jams you will have to be prepared for huge bills at the gas station. Despite this, car enthusiasts continue to buy and use SUVs for purposes other than their intended purpose. Since the cars are based on similar power units, the fuel consumption is the same – 11.2 liters in mixed mode per hundred kilometers. AI-95 gasoline is recommended for refueling. At the same time, it must be recalled that Palisade is available in economical diesel generation, which significantly reduces fuel consumption to 8.5 liters.

Maintenance costs

Since we are talking about modern SUVs with rich equipment, you should not claim small costs for maintenance and in case of car repairs. Although these models are presented by South Korean manufacturers, they require serious regular investments for their maintenance. It is impossible to choose a clear favorite in this case, since the cost of consumables and spare parts is approximately the same. If desired, you can use original parts or choose cheaper analogues; fortunately, after the cars appear on the Russian market, there will be no problems with them. If we consider regular gasoline costs, then the Hyundai Palisade will seem more interesting, since this car can be purchased with a more economical power plant.

Engines and transmission

If you choose a Hyundai Palisade or a Kia Telluride, then it is difficult to clearly give preference to one or another SUV, until the moment when it comes to the power plants used in the cars. It is noteworthy that this modification from Kia is planned for sales in Russia with only one powertrain option. The Hyundai manufacturer went further and offered potential buyers three alternative engine versions at once. As for the transmission, there are no alternatives to automatic transmissions, as is the case with Kiaand in the situation with Hyundai. At the same time, Palisade will be available in Russia not only in gasoline versions, but also in diesel versions. It is worth noting that many Russian motorists prefer heavy fuel versions.

Hyundai Palisade will be available on the Russian automobile market in a diesel version with a 2.2-liter engine equipped with a turbocharger. This unit produces 200 horsepower and 441 Nm of torque. This model will also be available in petrol versions with 3.5 and 3.8 liter engines. These are naturally aspirated engines producing 277 and 291 horsepower, respectively. 335 and 355 Nm of torque are transmitted to the wheels, depending on the engine size selected. It is noteworthy that this vehicle can be purchased with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, depending on the immediate requirements of the car enthusiast. Regardless of the power plant, the model is equipped only with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

As for the Kia Telluride, not everything is as interesting as in the case of its direct competitor from Hyundai. This modification of the SUV will be sold with a non-alternative 3.8-liter naturally aspirated power plant. This engine produces 295 horsepower. The drive is carried out on the front axle or all wheels, depending on the selected version. This model is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission. With proper load, 355 Nm of torque is transmitted to the wheels.

Performance

Those car enthusiasts who experience the thrill of racing from traffic light to traffic light will most likely be disappointed. Both of these three-row SUVs went from zero to 60 mph in an uninteresting 6.9 seconds. The 2023 Hyundai Palisade ran the 400-meter (quarter mile) in 15.1 seconds at 150 km/h, which was a meager 0.1 second faster than the lighter (20 kilograms) Kia Telluride 2023. The Palisade pulled ahead slightly, when it came to our braking and handling tests, stopping from 100 km/h in 35.9 meters, and completing a figure eight (snake) in 27.0 seconds with a lateral g-force of 0.63 g (average). The Kia stopped from 100 km/h in 37.18 meters and completed the figure eight in 27.5 seconds at 0.61 g. We attribute these minor differences in performance to tire choice. While both SUVs are equipped with 20-inch 245/50 tires, the Palisade boasts Hankook Ventus S1 Nobel2 high-performance tires, while the Telluride is equipped with Michelin Primacy LTXs all-season tires.

Which car has the best price?

The 2023 Kia Telluride SX-Prestige X-Line starts at $54,070, just $770 more than the 2023 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy at $53,300. It’s exceptional value for money for those looking for a mid-size three-row SUV with a bit of rugged styling. A better comparison option is the standard Telluride SX-Prestige, which is priced at $51,955, $1,130 cheaper than the similarly equipped base Palisade Calligraphy model. At this price point, the Hyundai Palisade is still an excellent choice given the car’s near-luxury feature set.
