Hyundai Accent engine replacement

How to change an Accent engine with your own hands

Replacing the entire motor seems to be an easier procedure than overhauling it. However, this procedure is lengthy and labor-intensive. During the removal process, you will need a winch to hang the motor. Let us describe the general scheme for a car with a manual transmission.

  • Remove the battery.
  • Drain the coolant from the system and remove the radiator.
  • Raise the car and remove the front wheels.
  • Remove the transmission pan and drain the oil from it.
  • Remove the shield under the side member on the side where the gearbox is located.
  • Pull out the left axle shaft. Both axle shafts must ultimately be left hanging on the stabilizer bar.
  • Remove the speedometer spring clip.
  • Disconnect the speedometer cable.
  • Unscrew the engine and gearbox mounts at the front and rear.
  • Remove the right axle shaft.
  • Remove the gearshift lever.
  • Lower the car.
  • Remove the battery shelf.
  • Disconnect the air intake hose from the filter.
  • Disconnect the incoming air temperature sensor.
  • Disconnect the hoses: inlet and idle air valve, air supply, flame arrester, air exhaust valve, preheater.
  • Remove the air filter housing bolts.
  • Remove the air filter (its entire assembly).
  • Remove the throttle cable from the cam.
  • Remove the gearbox cable bracket.
  • Remove the retaining bracket from the tube and the clutch slave cylinder itself.
  • Remove the ground from the battery to the gearbox.
  • Unscrew the fastener and move it towards the power steering pump.
  • Remove the air conditioning compressor.
  • Remove the engine wiring harnesses, disconnect the sensors and hoses.
  • Disconnect the wire terminal and positive battery cable connector.
  • Unscrew the wiring holder nut.
  • Remove the distributor block.
  • Place the holder on the injectors.
  • Remove the distribution block and injectors and place them on the side.
  • Disconnect the pressure regulator hose and the fuel distribution unit wire brackets.
  • Close the injector openings.
  • Install the lifting eyes and lift the engine to clear the mounts.
  • Disconnect the engine mounts.
  • Hang up the motor.
  • Remove the gearbox.
  • Remove the drive disc and flywheel.
  • Install the motor on the stand and remove the installed equipment from it.
  • Install the removed equipment onto the new motor and assemble the parts in reverse order.

For vehicles with an automatic transmission, the engine removal process is different.

Let us note once again that removing the Accent engine yourself is a complex and dangerous process for both the car and the master, and you can only begin it with proper preparation and confidence in your abilities.

Line of power units

In 2001, the domestic assembly of the Hyundai Accent TagAZ became available for purchase. Ten years later, the plant declared bankruptcy and ceased operations. This was partly due to the fact that the new 2010 Accent did not live up to consumer expectations. Hyundai decided to restore its activities in Russia with the fourth generation. Sedans are assembled in Kaliningrad and St. Petersburg. The Accent line of powertrains was significantly updated in 2010, when the outdated Alpha series engines were replaced by new developments from the Gamma series.

The 1.5, 1.6 l engines were modernized and received:

  • Liquid cooling;
  • In-line vertical arrangement of cylinders;
  • 16-valve cylinder head;
  • Availability of hydraulic compensators.

The 1.5-liter engine labeled G4EC is characterized by a power of 102 horsepower, but the 1.6-liter analogue already has 120 horsepower. It is worth mentioning separately about those engines that are assembled in China – a normal practice for many large automobile companies. In fact, the assembly location did not affect the quality in any way; it is also important that quality control at Hyundai factories is known for its high level.
