What it is?
Screen calibration is the process of adjusting the touch display to correctly execute commands when touched with your fingers or a stylus. Of course, you can work with your device without such settings, but then get ready to waste your nerves, time and other troubles.
This procedure is required in most cases after the phone has been dropped, especially in water. Replacing the screen, a water stain underneath, even the smallest damage may require urgent adjustments. Checking whether you need calibration is as easy as shelling pears. First, remove the protective film so that the sensor operation is as clear as possible, then simply enter a number or letter. If you selected, say, “B”, and “A” appeared on the screen, then rest assured that you need to configure the touchscreen.
There are two main types of screens used in the production of Android devices: capacitive and resistive. Capacitive is now used in the vast majority, as it is more reliable and of higher quality. But problems often arise with resistive ones, and they require tuning more often. But it’s fortunate that these days they are rarely used – only in outdated or budget models.
How to calibrate the screen on Android?
There are two main ways to fix a broken touch sensor: using special programs and by hand. We also remind you that for HTC, Samsung, Nokia and other Android devices the calibration procedure is almost identical. You can also learn how to set your screen to rotate automatically.
Configuration using special programs
You can find many programs for screen calibration in the public domain, and most importantly in the public domain. They’re easy to install, easy to use, and most importantly, they deliver results. For example, Clinometer, TOPON, Bubble – check out Google Play. But? Even if you don’t have access to Google Play, you can set up the display without it using the second method.
Self-configuration
To set up an Android 4 (or other version) touchscreen yourself without any problems, we present step-by-step instructions:
- The first step, of course, is to access the Settings menu.
- Then select Phone Settings.
- Find the “Calibration” item and a cross target with a dot inside will appear in front of you.
- We dial several times in the center of the target (3 will be enough).
- After this, your device will remember the touches and calibration can be considered complete.
- After completing the setup, check the operation of the sensor. If the exact symbol you clicked appears on the screen, then everything was done correctly. Congratulations! (How to reset settings)
If clicks do not always appear
Sometimes it happens that the unauthorized behavior of a smartphone or tablet is not permanent. It seems that the device lives its own life. This can happen to any device, for example, Asus. We’ll look at how to “treat” phantom touchscreen clicks below.
People often have the following problems:
- While charging. The charger itself may cause unauthorized behavior. The fact is that during connection it misses a phase at the output, which is why the device “glitches”.
- Moisture. Even the smallest amount of liquid falling on or under the screen can cause pressing. People often experience such problems after rainy weather or high indoor humidity. As a rule, “treatment” is not required here. Just let the device dry.
- Another nuance of the problem may be the protective glass. If it is glued incorrectly and all requirements are not met, then phantom clicks occur because of this. It is enough to change the protective element, but entrust the manipulation to a specialist.

You can perform a Hard Reset either through Settings or Recovery Mode of the Android operating system. This procedure will delete all data: contacts, notes, email contents, etc. To avoid losing them, you must first synchronize with your Google account.
If the touchscreen isn’t responding properly and preventing you from syncing with your account, try connecting your phone to your computer using a USB cable. In the best case, you will need to confirm the data transfer, and if the device was already connected to this PC, pairing should happen automatically. You can then manually drag and drop media files or perform a full backup using the smartphone manufacturer’s proprietary software.
Checking the loop
If it is not connected tightly to the display, then it needs to be reconnected and checked for functionality.
It is also necessary to check the connection with the contacts, whether they are inserted completely.
If they suddenly become oxidized, you need to carefully clean them with an eraser.
But if there is any visual damage there, it needs to be replaced.
If the contacts are not connected properly, there may be incorrect clicks or the screen may not work at all. You should disassemble the device, insert the cable well and put it back together.
If the contacts are pressed through by other contacts, for example, from a connector, then the cable must be inserted all the way and pulled out one tenth of a millimeter so that the cable rests on the new contact points of the pad.
It so happens that the controller soldered on the cable turns out to be incompatible with your version. This often happens with gadgets from China.
Then you need to unsolder the controller from your old display and solder it into the new screen.
If you cannot do this yourself, due to lack of experience, take it to the masters who understand this.
- There is a protective film on the display. If it is of poor quality, it will affect the performance of the screen, reducing sensitivity to touch. Therefore, remove it and wipe the screen with a special cloth.
- Requires calibration. Try turning on your device without using the sensor so that the controller can rewrite the data about the new screen. During the download, its firmware will be updated and after the update the system will start.
This procedure is called screen calibration. It is used for strong and weak screen sensitivity, as well as for complete absence of sensitivity.
Basically, calibration is performed using special applications.

In addition to the listed breakdowns, electronic devices may begin to malfunction due to the peculiarities of the internal architecture. Limiting the size of components affects their power reduction if the tablet screen does not respond to touch – this may be a consequence of overloading the device with a large number of resource-intensive applications. For prevention, you need to start the task manager. Find out what is being loaded CPU devices, and disable unnecessary applications.
Electronic devices have increased sensitivity of screen sensors. A situation where the screen of a tablet or phone does not work may be due to simple contamination. The adhesion of grease and dust to the surface causes the tablet to not respond to touch.
If the screen on the tablet does not work, the most the best solution will take it for diagnostics to service center. Most models have a very long warranty, which will allow you to replace the device with another device without defects or get your money back at no additional cost. If the case is not under warranty, perhaps you should just buy a new gadget and subsequently treat it more carefully.

As already noted, this method is suitable for users whose devices do not have a built-in screen calibration function. This application is more in demand compared to analogues due to its ease of management and efficiency. To calibrate your device using Touchscreen Calibration, you must:
- Download the application from Google Play and install it.
- Launch the program and in the window that opens, click on the blue Calibrate button.
- The calibration process will begin, during which you will be asked to adjust the screen angle in several touch modes, you need to go through each of them.
- During the entire operation, the smartphone must be placed on a flat horizontal surface for maximum calibration accuracy.
- Finally, you need to press the “Ok” button and reboot the device.

Where can I get it?
If the touchscreen on your phone is “covered with a copper basin,” you will need a piezoelectric element to “resurrect” it. Where can I get it? Of course, in a piezo lighter. But I don’t have a piezo lighter at home: with a handle, on a wire or a battery – there’s no such thing.
But there is a piezoelectric element. It is installed on the hob of my gas stove. Turning the burner knob, I open the gas. At the same time, I press the handle down and turn on the piezoelectric element. This is how I light the burner.
In general, I need a piezoelectric element, but I don’t need gas. I turned off the gas valve. Turned off my phone. I brought it with the screen to the piezoelectric element: the place where my touchscreen “died”. I turned on the piezoelectric element and moved the screen for a few seconds so that the spark covered the “dead” area of the touchscreen.
After that, I turned on the phone, and – lo and behold! – the touchskin is working! He really recovered! He became fully operational!
