The restyling did not radically transform the Swedish model so that we could talk about its appearance on the market in a new body. As for the Volvo XC90 2022 model year, the manufacturer has revised some configurations for it, which has led to an increase in the starting price for the crossover. The technical characteristics of the Volvo XC90 have not changed since the restyling, as well as the interior of the SUV, as evidenced by comparative photos published online.
The automaker used the SPA architecture as the basis for creating a restyled version of the crossover. It provided the appearance of a front suspension based on transverse aluminum wishbones. As for the rear suspension, it is a classic multi-link system, complemented by a central spring. Both SUV suspensions are based on steel subframes, which adds to their reliability. In addition, based on the need and developing road conditions, the car can change the level of ground clearance due to pneumatic suspension settings.
Currently in Russia, the Volvo XC90 is offered with gasoline and diesel engines, as well as a hybrid power plant. In the basic version, the crossover is equipped with a 2-liter turbo engine producing 249 horsepower. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. In this version, the cross will reach a speed of 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds, and the fuel consumption level, in this case, is 8.1 liters. An alternative option to a gasoline engine is a diesel unit. It has the same volume of 2 liters, but its power output is higher – 235 “horses”. Such power performance of the engine allows it to accelerate the car from zero to the first “hundred” in 7.8 seconds. Traditionally, diesel units demonstrate good efficiency – in this case, diesel consumption for every 100 km traveled will be 5.7 liters.
The most expensive versions of the 2022 Volvo XC90 have a hybrid engine. The basis for such an installation is a 2-liter turbo engine, the output of which is 320 “horses”. Additionally, a 65 kW electric motor is installed on the rear axle of the crossover. Thanks to its presence, the car is capable of covering up to 40 kilometers of distance solely on the basis of electric traction. This design allows the model to accelerate to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds, and the fuel consumption level, in this case, is stated at 2.5 liters. In any of the offered versions, the car is equipped with permanent all-wheel drive.
Regarding the dimensions and main indicators of the crossover, we can highlight the following:
- Body dimensions – 4950x2008x1776 mm.
- The number of seats in the cabin is 5-7.
- The distance between the axles is 2984 mm.
- Weight – 2130-2384 kg.
- Ground clearance – 238 mm.
- Fuel tank – 71 liters.
- Luggage compartment – from 314 to 1886 liters.
Specifications
The car is built on a SPA “trolley”, which includes a front suspension based on aluminum wishbones. The rear suspension is a multi-link system complemented by a central spring. Both are located on strong metal subframes. The starting configuration includes a two-liter turbocharged unit with 249 horsepower. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The car accelerates from zero to “hundreds” in just 7.9 seconds and, at the same time, consumes 8 liters of fuel. At the next level is a 235-horsepower turbodiesel with the same volume. This performance is enough for him to accelerate the car from zero to the first “hundred” in 7.8 seconds. Traditionally, diesel units are more economical – in this case, 5.7 liters of diesel fuel are consumed. There is also a hybrid system, the basis for which is a 2-liter turbo engine, the output of which is equal to 320 “horses”. In this case, only 5.6 seconds are enough to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h, and fuel consumption is 2.5 liters.
The model is far from compact in size. The length of the crossover body is 4950 mm, width – 2008 mm, and height – 1776 mm. However, thanks to numerous systems and normal steering settings, the driver of the Volvo XC90 2022 will not experience discomfort in urban environments. The car also has a fairly high ground clearance – 238 mm, which will allow you to go off-road. The interior of the model, depending on the modification, can have five or seven seats. However, no one will need space inside, because the distance between the front and rear axles is 2984 mm. The luggage compartment of the model has a volume from 314 to 1886 liters. In general, the crossover can be safely used for trips to distant lands by the whole family.

Handling and off-road performance
One of the best indicators characteristic of the Swedish model is its controllability. The car reacts very accurately and quickly to any movement of the steering wheel, and the mass of on-board electronics is capable of keeping the crossover in its lane and not skidding in any, even very difficult, situation on the road.
Despite its impressive dimensions, decent ground clearance, all-wheel drive system and air suspension, the Volvo XC90 does not belong to the segment of full-fledged SUVs, but is still a crossover. This is due to the fact that the car is equipped with an automatic transmission, for which off-road conditions and operation in overheated conditions are destructive.
Safety
Volvo has always been famous for the safety of its cars and this model is no exception. There are many electronic assistants installed here, such as:
- braking of individual wheels;
- prevention of leaving the road;
- object recognition at night;
- rollover prevention;
- automatic braking system.
This model was recognized as the best in some countries, and Euro NCAP tested it for safety, and it received 5 stars there. In percentage terms, this company recognized it as the best in terms of security in its class.
Operation in the city and off-road
The model has large dimensions, but this does not prevent you from performing any maneuvers on it, because the car has a properly configured steering mechanism with an electric booster, as well as a whole list of various assistants that make driving this car even easier. It is worth noting the comfortable suspension, which “swallows” almost all bumps on the road. There is no feeling of relief in the car at all. Every available engine delivers strong performance, so there’s little to complain about when it comes to performance either.
The car’s off-road performance is also at a very high level. The model can drive not only on unpaved surfaces or rough roads, but also on serious off-road terrain, where it can easily overcome any obstacles. However, most often, the owners of such cars limit themselves only to smooth asphalt. Very rarely does the Volvo XC90 reveal its great off-road potential. Most likely, the model needs these characteristics only in case the owner simply needs to drive on non-hard surfaces.
Specifications
In the new version, the third-generation crossover has retained, in the ratios 4950 x 2008 and 1776 mm, the impressive dimensions of its predecessor and the main layout properties of the universal modular platform of the SPA series. In the design features of the chassis:
- 2984 mm center base and 238 mm off-road ground clearance;
- independent spring-spring or air suspension;
- automatic roll stabilization circuit;
- premium set of disc brakes and safety systems.
The engine range includes petrol, diesel and economical hybrid engines. In the first two versions, these are 2-liter power units with output from 235 to 249 hp, working in a productive tandem with an 8-speed front- or all-wheel drive automatic transmission. The test drive confirmed dynamic acceleration characteristics, excellent handling, and economical fuel consumption for its class.
