History of the line

The first Honda Pilot, then labeled 3, was presented at the Chicago Auto Show, which took place in 2016. In the summer of the same year, sales started in North America. In Russia, sales of the Honda Pilot 3 SUV began a year later in May 2016. After that, every year the Japanese manufacturer released a restyled version.

This time, the updated Honda flagship received a more stylish appearance, a modernized interior, impressive equipment and an advanced Honda Sensing safety kit. In previous lines, Honda Sensing was installed only in the maximum configuration or additionally, at the request of the client. The car comes from the factory in 5 standard colors; an exclusive color is not yet available. The Honda Sensing package cost $760.

The manufacturer announced an impressive line-up of updates for next year:

  • Touring 4dr SUV (3.5L 6cyl 9A),
  • Touring w/Rear Captain’s Chairs 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl 9A),

Specifications

The new 2019 Honda Pilot is equipped with a powerful 3.5 liter gasoline engine. Its horsepower figure stopped at 280, which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8 seconds. The estimated fuel consumption will not be too high, about 12 liters. The first photos of the engine compartment are already available.

Depending on the configuration and personal preferences, the future owner can choose two transmission variations – automatic or manual. It is also possible to purchase a car with all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive. Naturally, each variation differs in price and list of additional options.

The most serious changes affected the suspension and steering. They have become more reliable and wear resistance has improved. Thanks to this, the future owner of the car can safely travel in the updated Honda Pilot, without fear of bumps and outright off-road conditions.

The camera will look to the right

The exterior mirrors are large, identical in shape of the reflective elements, but different in their housings. At the bottom of the right mirror, a characteristic “tide” is noticeable, in which the video camera is located. It is activated when a right turn signal is given and allows you to assess the situation from the starboard side. Although we became acquainted with this function of Honda models back in 2013, during a test of the ninth generation sedan, such a device is still rarely found on other cars (one example is the premium Kia K900, but both mirrors there are endowed with a similar function). How useful is this device? When changing lanes quickly, it is not of much use, since you simply do not have time to glance at the central display. But when maneuvering in cramped conditions – yes, it’s a useful thing that can be useful to the bulky “Pilot” and its driver.

Comparison with last year’s model

New for the 2019 Honda Pilot is the Honda Sensing suite of safety technologies, which comes standard on all trims. The previous year’s Honda Pilot had Honda Sensing as standard equipment only on Touring and Elite models last year.

Also new for the 2019 Honda Pilot is an updated Display Audio infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay added on EX and above vehicles. New standard features available on all Honda Pilot models include LED headlights and daytime running lights, automatic high beams, remote control and more.

Branded Honda technologies installed on all 2019 Pilots:

  • Blind Spot Monitoring;
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert;
  • CabinTalk;
  • CabinControl.

Presumably, in dealer networks, the 2019 Honda Pilot will be sold, depending on the configuration, at a price of $39,000, which is $500 higher than the starting price of the 2018 Pilot. According to insider information, the cost of the new Honda Pilot 2019 in Russia will be from 3.035 million rubles. Adherents of the brand will appreciate the enhanced safety, because this is what the Japanese manufacturer has focused on in the 2019 line.
