What’s the best SUV on the market?
2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee | Jeep
Jeep makes some of the few SUV models with off-road capabilities. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the few midsize SUVs that can go off-road.
The Toyota Sequoia is a great rival to the Jeep Grand Cherokee because it also has off-road capabilities. Consumer Reports calls the Sequoia an “impressive SUV.” It is also one of the most durable cars ever made. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia even comes in a special off-road TRD Pro package that includes 2.5-inch FOX coilovers with internal bypass, remote reservoir rear shocks, and a TRD Pro front sway bar.
The Sequoia TRD Pro uses a twin-turbocharged i-FORCE MAX V6 hybrid engine that produces 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque. That’s a lot more power than the Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. Even the Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit, equipped with a 5.7-liter V8 engine, doesn’t make as many horses as the Sequoia i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain.
Toyota Sequoia is available in more powerful off-road trim levels. The torque will come in handy in difficult testing situations. The Sequoia TRD Pro is more expensive than either Grand Cherokee configuration, but it also appears to be more capable. If you want to stick to the midsize SUV segment, the Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium also comes with a host of off-road upgrades. It starts at just $44,880.
Fuel Economy and Real MPG
Fuel economy estimates for the V-6-powered Grand Cherokee are typical for the midsize SUV segment: 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway combined with rear-wheel drive. Adding all-wheel drive lowers each of those estimates by 1 mpg. The 4xe plug-in hybrid provides better fuel economy and is rated at 23 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. It comes with a 14.0 kWh battery pack and a 134 hp electric motor, allowing the Grand Cherokee to travel up to 25 miles on a single charge. Jeep boasts that the 4xe-equipped Grand Cherokee has completed the famous Rubicon Trail entirely in EV driving mode. For more information on Grand Cherokee fuel economy, visit EPA website.
Safety and driver assistance features
Driver assistance features such as pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist and semi-autonomous driving modes are becoming increasingly important to buyers, and Jeep is offering a more comprehensive suite of standard safety technologies to meet that demand. For more information on Grand Cherokee crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Web sites. Key security features include:
- Standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection
- Standard lane departure warning and lane keep assist
- Standard adaptive cruise control
Technical specifications
The variation of the car available to Russians is built on the UniFrame “trolley”. The starting specification is equipped with a three-liter V-shaped “six”, which develops a maximum performance of 238 “horses”. A 286-horsepower 3.6-liter internal combustion engine is also available. The flagship engine of this SUV is a 5.7-liter unit that develops 347 hp. The car’s gasoline consumption is from 10.2 to 14 liters per hundred kilometers. Acceleration from zero to first hundred takes from 7.3 to 9.8 seconds. The transmission used is an automatic automatic transmission, which distributes torque along both axles. Overall, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has excellent technical parameters.
Oddly enough, this car does not have such large body dimensions for its class. The length of the machine is 4828 mm, width is 1943 mm, and height is 1802 mm. In turn, there is almost three meters between the axles of the model, so each of the five seats is spacious. The large luggage compartment has a volume of 782 liters, which is quite enough for all the everyday needs of a city person. By the way, the SUV itself can drive not only around the city, thanks to its high ground clearance.
