The first generation Yukon (1992-1999) has a more well-known relative – the Chevrolet Tahoe and a lesser known – the Chevrolet Silverado pickup.
The length of the SUV is more than 5 m, and the base is almost 3 m. The curb weight of this impressive structure is under 2.5 tons.
As befits a real American car, under the hood is a gasoline V-shaped eight. The motor of the Vortec family is the famous small block. It is “small” because it has “only” 5.7 liters of displacement.
The gasoline engine develops 250-255 hp. They indicated different powers, depending on the methods of converting American forces, measured according to the SAE standard, into standards that are more understandable to us.
A classic of American engine building is the V-shaped “eight” with a volume of 5.7 liters.

While driving, the new Yukon behaves perfectly. The 6.2-liter petrol V8 is very powerful and not audible in the cabin. As for the automatic transmission, it is also excellent and shifts clearly and smoothly. With so many gears (10 gears), sometimes it seems that the transmission is continuously variable, since the drop in revolutions is not visually noticeable.
2021 GMC Yukon Denali
According to the EPA, the new Yukon Denali gets 16.8 mpg in city driving and 12 mpg in highway driving with this engine. Combined, the average fuel consumption is 14.7 liters per 100 kilometers. The car accelerates from 8.6-9 seconds to 100 km/h.
With its large size and weight of 2630 kilograms in all-wheel drive form, you can’t expect impressive dynamics from the car, but it’s quite good for a large SUV. Thanks to multiple adjustable camera angles that give the driver a 360-degree view, as well as parking sensors and a rearview camera mirror, driving is much easier and more enjoyable.
Engines and transmission
The Yukon is now available with a 3.0-liter inline-six turbo-diesel engine, which was previously offered in SUVs from sister brand Chevrolet. At the same time, as before, the “base” engine for the new SUV will remain a V-shaped petrol “eight” with a volume of 5.3 liters and a power of 355 horsepower. It has not undergone major updates compared to the previous generation. Except it now uses an improved partial cylinder deactivation system – from two to four – to improve efficiency. The Denali version is equipped with a 6.2-liter V-twin engine. The Yukon’s transmission has received a major upgrade. On the new generation model, a 10-speed automatic transmission has become standard instead of the old 6-speed. An electronic limited-slip differential as well as the new Active Response 4WD off-road assist system are offered exclusively on the AT4 version.
Interior
The 2021 Tahoe and GMC Yukon will be distinguished not only by price, but also by expensive materials and interior design. So, the elite Yukon will receive:
- comfortable steering wheel with 4-point design and a large set of control buttons;
- a spacious box between the seats of the 1st row, which, if necessary, can be moved by 254 mm, adjusting it to suit you;
- 12.6-inch passenger entertainment system monitors;
- panoramic roof;
- 15-inch head-up display;
- stylish leather seats with many automatic settings.
At the same time, the design of the Denali and AT4 models will be significantly different. For the luxury version, a monitor and digital instrument panel are expected to be integrated into the panel, while the off-road version will be equipped with a 10-inch touch screen and analog instruments.

Thanks to the longer wheelbase, the new 2021 GMC Yukon offers a more spacious interior and incredibly spacious luggage compartment. The legroom for passengers in the 2nd row will increase by 41%, and the volume of the luggage compartment will be:
